These are my harmonica notes as a Dallas Harmonica Player. I have played harmonica for just over a year and I am thoroughly addicted to it. I play live whenever I can. I started playing blues harp when a buddy of mine separated from his wife. I know that sounds like a strange reason to start but here's the story.
When my friend separated from his wife, he started playing guitar. He picked it up because he'd always wanted to learn. Being the supportive friend that I am, I decided to take up the bass. We were going to start a band. I figured bass would be and easy instrument to learn the basics of quickly. I knew I wouldn't be spending as much time on it as him. Don't get me wrong, bass is a deep instrument, there's lots involved in becoming an expert, but it is pretty easy to start with. I was doing pretty well at it for a beginner with no lessons too.
The big issue was portability. I had to lug the monster, it's amp and cord every time I went over to his place. I wanted something light weight. I was surfing around online and I found the youtube page of Adam Gussow. I checked out his videos on how to play the harmonica and my eyes were opened. The things I couldn't figure out as a kid were explained. I resolved to buy a harmonica.
The next time we were out at the music store, I picked up my first harp. A Bb blues harp. I was hooked. Adam Gussows early videos all used the Bb so I went to work. I learned the basics, like 2 hole draw and bending and to stick to the first 5 holes when starting. I also learned about cross harp.
A year later I have 8 harps and my favorite keys are A, C and Eb. My newest one in B is definitely going into my favorite list. It's the one I use when playing SRVs Texas Flood.
If you want to see more of my harmonica notes, check out the link and come on by my main site. As soon as I get up the courage I will put up some MP3s and videos of my playing.
